CLAYTON – A 59 year-old man was injured while trying to leave the parking lot of a business in Downtown Clayton. Around 4:00pm Thursday, Clayton Police, Fire and Johnston County EMS were dispatched to First National Bank at 315 E. Main Street where they found a man trapped underneath his own car.
Firefighters used inflatable cushions to free Joel Anthony Morrison of Smithfield who was pinned underneath his 2018 Toyota. He was transported to the hospital for treatment.
“It appears he was pushing the vehicle and it started rolling down the slope of the driveway leading into the parking lot of the bank,” Police Chief Greg Tart said. “He attempted to jump in it to stop it but fell and the vehicle rolled over him pinning him underneath.”
“The fire department did a great job of getting him out from under the vehicle and EMS immediately began treating him,” Chief Tart said.
Main Street was shut down for approx 30 minutes.
Miraculously, Morrison did not sustain serious injuries and was scheduled to be released from the hospital today (Friday).
