Smithfield Police are investigating the shooting of a 20 year-old man. It happened around 9:37pm Monday.
Officers were initially dispatched to a report of shots being fired in the area of 721 N. Brightleaf Boulevard. When police arrived they didn’t find a victim or a suspect.
Two minutes later, police were dispatched to the parking lot of Lowes Home Improvement at 1230 N. Brightleaf Boulevard. They arrived to find Jeffrey Williams suffering from a single gunshot wound. Williams was able to tell police the shooting had just taken place in the parking lot of Pine Needles Shopping Center at 721 N. Brightleaf Boulevard.
Williams was transported to the hospital for treatment. His condition was not released.
