Man Shot, Robbed After Accepting Ride

Authorities are looking for at least two suspects following a shooting at an abandoned home in Johnston County.  The incident happened around 6:00pm Friday in the 2100 block of Benson-Hardee Road outside of Benson.

A 38 year-old Coats man said he had asked someone for a ride to a relative’s home in Johnston County.  A person reportedly offered the victim a ride in exchange for gas money, but before reaching the destination stopped at the abandoned home and robbed the victim of his money.

One suspect reportedly shot at the victim 4 times not hitting him. A second suspect fired one shot which struck the man in the leg. The suspects then fled with $380 in cash.

Johnston County Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell said officers are searching for two black male suspects last seen operating a hunter green older model Jeep Cherokee.  Anyone with information about the suspects or the shooting is asked to contact sheriff’s detectives at 919-989-5000.
