A 38 year-old man was shot through the back door of his home during an attempted late-night armed robbery. The victim is recovering and the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is currently searching for 3 suspects.
Sheriff’s investigators said the robbery and shooting was reported at 10:00pm Tuesday at 162 Watson Road, just off Highway 301 between Micro and Kenly.
The victim said he had just put his son to bed and was walking to the living room when he spotted an unknown male, with his face covered, run onto his back porch and attempt to open the door. As the resident attempted to lock the back door, two more male suspects ran onto the porch. As the victim was standing at his back door trying to keep it secured he was shot through the door by one of the suspects who was armed with a handgun.
The bullet struck the victim in his hand and leg. He was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. No one else inside the home was injured.
The suspects fled before deputies arrived.
Anyone with information about the 3 suspects or the attempted robbery is asked to contact sheriff’s detectives at 919-989-5000. Callers may remain anonymous.
