Smithfield Police said they seized nearly a half ounce of suspected marijuana and counterfeit $20 bills during a traffic stop in the parking lot of Smithfield Selma High School on Booker Dairy Road.

Around 11:00pm, a police officer stopped a vehicle in the school parking lot and allegedly found 12 grams of marijuana, a digital scale and two counterfeit $20 bills inside an SUV.

Joseph Oliver Eason, 22, of the 300 block of Wilson’s Mills Road, Smithfield was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Lamont Cruz Lopez, 20, of the 100 block of Britt Street, Smithfield was arrested on a felony count of possession of counterfeit currency.

Interim Police Chief Keith Powell said the incident was not related to the high school in anyway.
