A motorist was arrested on several charges at a Johnston County Sheriff’s Office SAFE Team checkpoint Tuesday night.
Officers were conducting the license checkpoint on Old Fairground Road when a green truck approached. A deputy said he detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver, identified as 58 year-old Robert Lynn Carpenter of the 2300 block of Mt. Pleasant Road, Willow Spring, didn’t have a license, officers said.
He allowed deputies to search his truck. During the search marijuana was allegedly located in a McDonald’s bag.
Carpenter faces several charges including conspiracy to sell or deliver a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, driving on a revoked license, operating a vehicle with no insurance, and having a fictitious tag or registration card. He was placed in the Johnston County Jail under a $42,500 bond.
