Mayor Elected To Town Council

Wilson’s Mills has a new mayor and the former mayor has a seat on the town council.  Two town council members were also unseated.

Phillip R. Wright decided not to run for reelection this year as the town mayor, instead he ran for the Wilson’s Mills Town Council.

Six candidates were running for the 3 open seats on the town council on Tuesday.

Wright received the most votes 109, followed by David J. McGown with 103, and Incumbent councilman Randy N. Jernigan with 86.

Incumbents Fleta Byrd and Kenneth R. Jones lost their re-election bid. Byrd finished in fourth place with 64 votes followed by Jones in fifth place with 52 votes. Challenger Joseph Evans finished last with 48 votes.

Jim Uzzle Jr. was elected as the new Wilson’s Mills Mayor. He was unopposed and garnered 124 votes. There were 15 write-in votes for mayor in unofficial returns.
