RALEIGH – On Tuesday, a bill was filed in the NC Senate that aims to define “male” and “female” by biology in NC law and to restrict men and boys from entering women and girls’ private spaces. The bills mirror President Trump’s recent executive order ‘Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government’ which declared that Federal policy will recognize the “biological reality of sex” and restricts men from entering women’s private spaces in federal agencies and facilities.
NC Values Coalition Press Director Ashley Vaughan applauded the bill, saying, “North Carolina must return to the common sense understanding that men are men, women are women, and men should not be allowed to rob women of their safety and privacy by invading their private spaces. Defining male and female by biology in North Carolina law is important because when men can identify as women it invalidates hundreds of laws and policies designed to protect women. We need to protect women and girls in private spaces where they are vulnerable. North Carolina schools should never allow children to be on the front lines of the gender ideology confusion. And North Carolina correctional facilities must protect female inmates from predatory male inmates claiming to be women. Trump got this right, and now North Carolina needs to get this right.”
If this bill becomes law, NC will join a growing number of states seeking to protect women from gender ideology. Six states do not allow sex to be changed on birth certificates, and three states define “sex” by biology. Fourteen states have passed laws to segregate private spaces by biology, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals just upheld a similar law passed by Idaho unanimously.
The bill introduced Tuesday only designate private spaces by biology in K-12 public schools, rape crisis centers, local confinement facilities, domestic violence shelters, juvenile detention centers, and prisons.
Incredibly sad these delusions have been allowed to proliferate that we feel it’s imperative to enshrine these truths into law because a subset of our population doesn’t believe it.
Common sense is returning! The party of “trust the science” masking and distancing with no science doesn’t want to “trust the science” that proves there are only 2 biological genders.
@Jen: The fact that you said “biological gender” tells me all I need to know. There’s no such thing as “biological gender.” You must be a product of JoCo public school system, to not understand the difference between “sex” and “gender.”
The NC Values Coalition, another idol worshipping group in of so called Christian want-a-be’s, who commit sinful acts Monday through Friday and repent on Sunday because that makes them feel better. They believe their beliefs bare the only ones in the world and go out of their way to push what they believe onto others, and pick and choose only the parts of the Bible that coincide with their political beliefs. What happened to Love thy neighbor?Fortunately there are many other religions that are more tolerant than these want-a-be’s.
If God says it’s wrong then it’s wrong. Sorry if it steps on your toes but that happens alot when there is conviction. We should love everyone but do not have to love their ways. All we can do is pray!
What GOD? The idol you worship? From a book that’s changed many times over the centuries to meet mans needs, and can be interpreted in as many ways as a horoscope. Just look at how many religions there are that interpret that man made book in different ways. What worse is how many so called Christians pick and choose only what they want to believe from that book and will never admit it.
Not picking and choosing. Doesn’t work like that. However, if you read it and study it you’ll understand. You have to read it all, not the parts you want to. God bless you.
Amen Brother.
@Chris

Where does your God or Bible does it say Transgender is wrong? Book, Chapter and Verse please!
Deuteronomy 22:5
Sorry Brett, Deuteronomy 22:5 identifies someone that is atransvestite not someone that is transgender. Good try though. Still waiting for where your GOD or Bible says that transgender is wrong.
You also won’t find a passage that specifically says pedophilia is wrong but would you argue for that as well? The Bible like other things in life should be taken in total context. From beginning to end it speaks of how we were purposely created. God does not make mistakes, He is perfect therefore who are we to say we were born with a body that does not match our mind? Sin has made the world broken, yes, but God is still perfect when he chose our sex. Gender and sex are the same, a broken world has tried to change it but it is not ours to change.
Genesis
Read it
You won’t find a verse about speeding in the Bible either, does that mean it’s ok? What a stupid argument.
But there is a verse that states Love Thy Neighbor, guess that verse only counts when it’s to the advantage of a hypocritical Christian
Indeed. Love thy neighbor as thyself. Love abides in truth, and does not delight in evil. The lie and delusion of transgender ideology must be stopped, solely if for no other reason because we love our neighbors, and therefore we must love what is true: males are boys/men, females are girls/women. That’s the truth, because those are biological facts. We’re not placating to fantasies any longer, because it’s doing irreparable damage to be people they cannot undo.
Judge not lest thee be judged.
….by the same measure. You forgot that. I won’t be judged for wearing a dress.
I gotta be honest…I do not know a single, solitary Christian who has tried to “push beliefs” on me and I have been around for a while. I’ve had many conversations with Christians, but I have not felt “pushed”. Although there was probably a time when Christians were “pushy”, I do not see that in 2025. However, I have felt pushed by the beliefs of the LGBTQ+ population. It seems if you disagree with them, you are stereotyped and placed in a corner with the others who do not agree with them. Truest statement ever made!
Have we not learned from the past? As the first openly transgender (nonbinary) candidate in the history of JOCO have we not been down this path.
Well our elected officials in Raleigh are there to represent all of us not the white groups who support hate. In the county history where the KKK publicly protested the building of schools and white only restaurants and bathrooms and used billboards to promote their agenda. Many people will not like my comments about this kind of nonsense.
My opinion is only based on truthful facts. So I am ready to be attacked, told that I am not a real woman, called unchristian like names, have people talk about me and even spit on me in public. Well here’s some news been there done that before. ( Just a note about the people of JOCO ) not everyone is filled with hate.
If you are a woman , why do yourself “trans”? Wouldn’t you just be “woman”? You kind defeat your own argument.
He’s not a woman.
Wayne, no one is out to harm you or hurt you. If anyone has assaulted you, as you describe, they should be held accountable for that.
You need to come to terms that you are a man, you were always a man, and you’ll always be one. Get real help if you need it, but I sincerely wish you will drop this deluded fantasy and be comfortable as God made you.
For the same reasons psychologists dont affirm the voices in a schizophrenic’s mind, we should not be affirm these sorts of delusions either.
Who’s Wayne.
Time for your meds.
White groups? This legislation has nothing to do with race. So, your commentary is not based on facts, but a false accusation. For the record, no one hates you. Disagreeing with you on some things does not mean you are hated. Jus’ Sayin’
Cool story, bro
Thank you for your courage and truth. Speaking out in the face of hate takes real strength, and your voice matters—especially in a place still healing from past injustices. You’re not alone; many of us in JOCO and beyond stand with you. Your resilience, honesty, and willingness to lead despite the risks are powerful. Not everyone here is filled with hate, and your presence reminds us that progress is possible and worth fighting for. Keep going—we’ve got your back.
Some people see a gynecologist, others see a urologist… others need to see a psychiatrist.
THIS is what the General Assembly is prioritizing?!?!? Inflation is up, stock market is down, unemployment is up, coastline is eroding, highways are packed, taxes keep rising…. and we’re wasting time targeting trans and non-binary people?!?!? #StopWastingTime
“My opinion is only based on truthful facts.”
Really? Why do you not understand that you are a man with a mental illness? You really should seek help William.
Wonderful! I hope this passes. America needs to repent for letting it get this far. If we turn from our wicked ways and seek God’s face, He will heal our land. Praise God for this and pray with a humbled heart our repentance.
This isn’t the first time the American South has used “safety” and “common sense” to justify segregation and discrimination. Decades ago, laws enforced separate water fountains, entrances, bathrooms, lunch counters, and schools—allegedly to protect society from imagined threats. But segregation wasn’t about protection. It was about control. It was rooted in fear and ignorance. It was wrong then, and it’s wrong now.
We should remember moments like the 1960 Greensboro sit-ins, where four Black college students were denied service at a Woolworth’s lunch counter in North Carolina, simply for being Black. Or Ruby Bridges, the six-year-old girl who walked into an all-white school under the protection of U.S. marshals while mobs screamed at her. Or James Meredith, who integrated the University of Mississippi in defiance of the governor—backed by federal forces sent by President Kennedy.
So what were white people so afraid of? Fear of difference. Fear of change. A desperate need to preserve a social order built on inequality. Myths about Black inferiority—reinforced through religion, pseudoscience, and media—weren’t fringe ideas. They were woven into everyday life, used to justify cruelty under the guise of “normalcy.”
And yet, despite being denied basic rights, Black Americans served this country with honor. All-Black units like the Buffalo Soldiers, the Harlem Hellfighters, and the Tuskegee Airmen fought and bled for a nation that denied them dignity. They wore the uniform, saluted the flag, and risked everything—then returned home to second-class citizenship. Still, they served. Their legacy is a testament to courage in the face of hypocrisy.
Today, transgender people face a new version of that same fear-driven exclusion. The proposed bathroom bill in North Carolina doesn’t protect anyone—it targets people simply for existing in public space. It turns a basic human need into a political flashpoint.
Let’s be honest: we all go to the bathroom for the same reason. It’s not a threat. It’s a human necessity. Most people go in, take care of business, and leave. The idea that trans people pose a danger in restrooms is a myth—and a harmful one. There is no credible evidence that trans-inclusive bathroom policies lead to increased risk. Major studies and law enforcement data consistently show no link between trans people using facilities that match their gender identity and any rise in misconduct.
As with segregation, the danger isn’t who’s in the bathroom—it’s the fear being weaponized to divide us.
Discrimination against trans people follows the same patterns we’ve seen before: labeling a group as different, assigning false traits, then using those myths to justify exclusion. These are the growing pains of our species. We instinctively sort ourselves into groups, fearing what we don’t understand. But our better instincts—and our Constitution—demand more.
The Constitution doesn’t say “equal protection for people we’re comfortable with.” It says equal protection for all. That includes Black soldiers who fought for freedom abroad and returned to segregation. It includes young students who faced mobs just to go to school. And it includes women, who were long denied the vote, denied autonomy, and boxed into narrow domestic roles—until they stood up and demanded the right to shape their own futures. And yes, it includes trans people, who are simply asking to live in peace, with dignity and safety.
Throughout history, our norms have been constantly challenged and redefined. Change is relentless. We grow, we learn, and the arc of progress—though not smooth—is always bending forward. There are setbacks, yes, but what once seemed radical often becomes common sense.
North Carolina now faces a choice: cling to fear-based policies of the past, or lead with understanding and courage. We don’t need more exclusion. We need inclusion. We don’t need another round of segregation. We need justice—for everyone.
Even though I believe in fighting prejudice and discrimination wherever they appear, I also recognize that progress—real, lasting progress—takes time. It’s rarely a straight line. This bill may very well become law in North Carolina. But that doesn’t mean the fight is lost. Every civil rights victory was preceded by resistance. What matters is that we keep speaking up, keep pushing forward, and keep working to ensure that this country lives up to its promise—for everyone.
You’re a loon
Laws should be based on objective facts and individual rights, not fear-driven narratives that have historically justified discrimination. There is no credible evidence that trans-inclusive bathroom policies create any danger, just as past segregation laws were not about safety but control. Equality under the law means protecting all individuals’ rights, and history has shown that inclusion, not exclusion, is the path to justice.
For a Trans person to compare themselves to the Black community, is absolutely disgusting. Trans people have never been slaves and they enjoy the same “rights” that every American enjoys. Chris, you missed the mark on that one. Stop insulting people.
No trans person compared themselves to the Black community in my post; your reading comprehension skills are lacking.
I drew parallels between historically marginalized groups, including Black individuals, women, and trans people. There are additional groups I could have included, such as Native Americans, LGBTQ+ individuals, low-income individuals, formerly incarcerated people, people with disabilities, senior citizens, single mothers, and religious minorities.
Yes, people can be cruel to each other. You claim that trans individuals enjoy the same rights as every American. While this may be true according to the Constitution, the reality is different. Just look at the comments in this thread directed at Wendy Ella May—they are absolutely appalling.
There is NO parallel bud.
Ignorance is a choice…bud!
Imagine getting this worked up over something has absolutely no impact on your life unless of course you’re in the closet and scared
If it impacts the life of my daughter or granddaughter having a safe space to use the bathroom or change for gym class, it absolutely is worth getting worked up over. Males are males, females are females. They are not the same, one CANNOT be the other, period. It is an abomination in GODS eyes, in the Muslim faith and others. It is just wrong! GOD does not make mistakes, humans make mistakes with the help of the evil that rules this earth. Male & Female. That is it. Keep biological boys/men OUT of our (should be) SAFE SPACE!
Understanding the Transgender Experience: Identity, Science, and Society
For many transgender people, the journey of self-discovery begins with a simple, internal truth: their gender identity doesn’t match the sex they were assigned at birth. This can lead to feelings of disconnect, especially as they become more aware of how society expects them to behave or identify. But this isn’t always the case. Some transgender individuals, especially children, don’t initially feel any internal conflict—they simply express who they are through their words, choices, and behavior, living life as it feels natural to them.
The key to a healthy journey—emotionally and psychologically—is family support. When children are accepted, affirmed, and loved for who they are, they thrive. Families who support their transgender children aren’t pushing an agenda—they’re recognizing their child’s true nature and helping them live with confidence and authenticity. And authenticity is something we all seek, not just trans or LGBTQ+ people. Living an honest, self-directed life is a universal human need. Transgender people are just one example of what that journey can look like.
This experience isn’t new, and it’s not a “trend.” Transgender people have always existed. What has changed is our understanding. In the past, society labeled gender nonconformity as a mental illness. Today, thanks to research and evolving science, we recognize transgenderism (a term used in medical and academic settings) as a natural variation in human identity. Transgenderism is when a person’s gender identity doesn’t align with the sex assigned at birth. Its causes appear to be a complex mix of genetics, prenatal hormone exposure, and brain development. It’s not something someone chooses—and it’s not something that needs to be “fixed.”
In fact, this condition is not unlike other naturally occurring variations in human biology. Just as left-handedness or being intersex arise from genetic or developmental differences, gender diversity fits into the broader range of human experience. Science continues to uncover evidence that transgender identity has biological roots. This understanding helps reduce stigma and reminds us that diversity is not a flaw—it’s part of nature.
In the modern world, many transgender individuals take legal steps to affirm their identity. It is possible in many places to have gender markers changed on official documents, such as driver’s licenses, passports, and even birth certificates. This is an important part of the transition process for some, offering dignity, safety, and recognition under the law. While laws vary from state to state and country to country, more governments now understand the importance of allowing people to live as their true selves—not just socially, but legally as well.
What’s even more powerful is that many cultures throughout history have recognized and honored gender diversity, long before modern science tried to explain it. For example, many Indigenous tribes across North America have long embraced Two-Spirit people—individuals who embody both masculine and feminine traits. In tribes like the Navajo and Lakota, Two-Spirit people were seen as spiritually gifted and held respected roles in their communities. They were not just accepted; they were valued.
This isn’t unique to Indigenous cultures. In ancient Mesopotamia, gender-nonconforming priests served the goddess Inanna. In India, the Hijra community—recognized in sacred texts—is part of the cultural and spiritual fabric. In Samoa, the fa’afafine, people assigned male at birth who embody both masculine and feminine traits, are considered a natural and accepted part of society. These cultures understood something we’re only now rediscovering: gender is not rigid, and those who live outside the binary can offer unique perspectives, wisdom, and strength.
Sadly, not everyone sees it this way. Some people still treat transgender identity as a mental problem or dismiss it as confusion. But with time, science, and greater understanding, it’s clear that being transgender is not only real—it’s part of the broader human story.
At the heart of all this is a simple truth: every person deserves to live an authentic life, free from fear, shame, or rejection. Transgender people are not asking for special treatment—they’re asking to be seen, supported, and allowed to thrive. And when families, communities, and societies offer that support, everyone benefits.
Stop pushing your cult beliefs on everyone.
If “truth” doesn’t impact your life, you’ve got a problem.
Thank GOD & TRUMP !!!! Finally! Last thing I want is to be in a bathroom and seeing somebody come my way, not knowing if it’s a guy or a girl in a private bathroom, especially when you think about it if you’re traveling and you use a rest stop in North Carolina and you got some freak coming your way you don’t know what it is who wants to deal with that not me and I don’t want it around my grandchildren
Nobody cares about you or anybody else in the bathroom. They just want to drop a log, lady.
Y’all are so funny but this bill only applies to “K-12 public schools, rape crisis centers, local confinement facilities, domestic violence shelters, juvenile detention centers, and prisons.” It does not apply to public bathrooms in this state. So you better get used to not knowing if a person approaching you in a public bathroom is a man or woman. Quite frankly, it’s none of your business who’s in the bathroom with you. People just want to drop a deuce in private and not be bothered by anyone. The best thing you can do if you use a public bathrooms is to pray for toilet paper!
Unless your child is in there and a predator in disguise comes in and does something to them. This has happened and this is what people want to avoid. Play dress up amongst your friends in private, not public.
The sporks are up in arms.
It s very concerning to see how many anti-science and anti-Christian people now live in this community. You don’t want to belief in God? That’s your right, but the name calling, lies, and disgust towards people of faith does not make your argument of “love is love” and lecture us on judging the LGBTQ+ community when in fact YOU are guilty if what you profess Christians being guilty of. Exocet from my vantage point, it’s people like that who are the most hateful. Male and female are the 2 genders (listed as “sex” on birth certificates and other paperwork). For generations this has never been questioned or an issue. Now all of a sudden, because people want to live in a delusional world, it is OK. Such a sad state of affairs when people can’t accept basic biological fact.
It is a sign of the times… go from bad to worse… as the Bible said.
As an African American woman, well said Chris Johnson!
I’ve politicians knock on my door to tell me how to vote. I’ve had religious people knock on my door telling me how to pray. I’ve never once had a transgender person knock on my door telling me I had to wear a skirt.
This entire “issue” is a non-problem created to strike fear and anger into you all. Hate and fear are the perfect emotion to get the people riled up, and here we are.
It’s crazy you’re the only one here making any kind of sense. The only one here thinking spatially about the issue. It’s such a non-issue people get themselves worked up over.
It’s disturbing how obsessed most conservatives are with other people’s genitals.
It’s telling that this bill is benched behind a desire to protect women, but fails to include trans men accessing male spaces. I guess those “girls pretending to be boys” are totally safe hanging out in the men’s room, right? And if they are so concerned about protecting women, why do they feel it’s okay to let strangers check their kids’ genitals to make sure they poop in the right toilet? Yes, they passed a bill in another state to do just that. It will only get more perverse going forward, because once you legalize abuse for some people, it inevitably leads to abusing others.
If bathrooms are women’s private spaces that must be protected, why aren’t their uteruses? I guess the bathrooms have more rights than women.
Separation of church and state is one of the major founding principles for our country, along with no monarchs. The Bible is irrelevant in all instances of governing policy except for when it’s a matter of freedom of religion. The concept of a “soul” is religious. At conception, we are all female. We don’t differentiate until later in our development. That’s biological fact. I guess that means everyone’s “soul” is female, right? Or are the men trans?
If I have to tolerate religious extremists and Nazis, then there should be no problem with you tolerating the trans community. They aren’t equivalent or even in the same category, other than what bigots would have us believe. Or is it cool to have Nazis hanging out in the girls’ bathroom?
What Nazi’s? They were done in WW2. Stop pushing your cult beliefs on everyone.
If it looks acts like one, talks like one, moves like one, it might just be.
