Meth Lab Found Near Rural Church

A homeowner is reportedly on the run after a methamphetamine lab was located inside his burning home Thursday morning.

A passing motorist called 911 after seeing smoke coming from a home at 5346 Meadowbrook Road, Benson. Fire crews extinguished the fire which was later determined to have started from a meth lab inside the residence.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene. The NC SBI was also called in to assist with the cleanup of the meth lab components found inside, according to Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell.

Officers also located a stolen boat at the address, which is just yards away from the New Zealand Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

Captain Caldwell said charges are pending. No injuries were reported. Photos by John Payne
