In honor of Veterans Day Johnston County Register of Deeds Craig Olive reminds Veterans that they have the option of filing a copy of their DD Form 214 or Report of Separation with their county Register of Deeds office. This service is offered as a convenience to former service members and there is no fee.

Military Discharge records commemorate service to the country and provide documentary evidence of qualifications for veteran’s benefits. These records are kept by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). Veterans and their next of kin can obtain this form from NARA without charge. Instructions and forms for obtaining military discharge records from NARA are available at: http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/about-service-records.html

“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all Veterans, active duty, reserves & family members for their service to our country,” Olive said.
