Buies Creek – Campbell sophomore catcher Zach Minnick has been named to the 2017 Johnny Bench Award Watch List as announced by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission. The prestigious award is given annually to the nation’s top NCAA Division I catcher.
Minnick is hitting .288 on the season, posting 18 RBI with four home runs and eight doubles, scoring 20 times. The Logan, W.Va. native has started 29 games behind the plate for the Camels.
The watch list will be narrowed down to a group of semifinalists on May 17. From there, ballots will be sent to a national voting panel to determine the three finalists (announced June 5). A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced at the 19th Annual Great Wichita Sports Banquet on June 29.
The Camels return to action on Tuesday, May 2, hosting Virginia Tech at Jim Perry Stadium.
