A 48 year-old man lost all of his belongings in a fire Wednesday night near Benson.
The Benson, Elevation and West Johnston Fire Department responded to the fire around 7:30pm on Memory Lane. When fire crews arrived on the scene the home, which was up a path and surrounded by woods, had already burned to the ground.
On Thursday, authorities announced the fire was intentionally set and are treating the case as arson. A witness reported seeing a suspicious vehicle at the home. Moments after the vehicle left, the home was engulfed in flames.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office are jointly investigating the fire. Anyone with any information is asked to contact investigators at 919-989-5000.
