SMITHFIELD – A 47 year-old Smithfield man critically injured in a traffic collision has died from his injuries.
On May 29, Needham Reece Liles was operating a moped on E. Sanders Street at S. Second Street. Liles reportedly failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection and was struck by a Hyundai passenger car.
Liles was rushed to WakeMed in Raleigh. He died from his injuries on June 5.
Police said a passenger on the moped fled on foot from the accident.
The driver of the Hyundai remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Smithfield Police said two witnesses confirmed Liles failed to stop for the stop sign.
No charges were filed against the driver of the Hyundai.
