SMITHFIELD – The driver of a moped was rushed to the hospital after a collision with a car. The accident was reported around Noon today (Monday) on US 70 Business just east of Interstate 95.
The driver of the car was not injured.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the State Highway Patrol.
The Smithfield Fire Department and Johnston County EMS responded to the scene.
I hope the operator of the moped will be ok, but I must say that I find these things on the road is dangerous and should not be permitted. I have seen them doing 35 MPH in a 55 zone and it gets verry frustrating. They ride in the middle of the road and will not move over to let cars pass. I say TAKE THEM OFF THE ROAD!
