More Charges Filed Against Home Repair Contractor

A home repair contractor arrested by Smithfield Police on charges he defrauded a South Smithfield resident $23,112 in a home repair scam is facing additional charges.

Anthony Tyrone Smoot, age 55, of Pikeville, NC, the operator of Smooth RSR also known as Smooth Roofing Solar & Renovation LLC, has now been charged by authorities in Wayne and Robeson counties with identical scams.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office announced June 5 the business owner was arrested on four counts of obtaining advances under promise to work and pay.

Wayne County authorities said three citizens came forward in April 2025 to report Anthony Smoot was paid in advance for miscellaneous home remodeling work but never returned to complete the repairs.

Two of the victims were residents of Wayne County. The third victim lives in South Carolina but owns property in Wayne County.

All three victims entered into a contractual agreement with Anthony Tyrone Smoot for repairs or remodel jobs and paid him in advance. In total the three victims in Wayne County lost nearly $40,000.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office also served a warrant on Anthony Smooth for the same offense in Robeson County.

Anthony Smoot has several judgments and liens against both himself, individually, and his company, according to online public court documents.
