Morgan Says State Needs To Overhaul Mental Health System

RALEIGH – Mike Morgan, Democratic candidate for Governor, says that North Carolina needs a major adjustment of its mental healthcare services. “Twelve people die every single day due to fentanyl drug overdoses. We are failing our fellow citizens. Our mental healthcare system is broken. It is time to have a complete overhaul of our mental healthcare delivery system,” said Mr. Morgan, a former NC Supreme Court Justice.

“When you talk with our first responders, they’ll tell you about the complete breakdown in mental healthcare that they see and deal with on a daily basis. The local medical entities don’t function efficiently. Patients can’t get access to community-based drug rehabilitation programs. The system is not working and is not serving the critical needs our citizens are facing,” said Mr. Morgan.

“The resources are not reaching the patients. They are tied up in the bureaucracy and not getting to the communities to help the patients and families who are in crisis,” added Mr. Morgan. “We need to create a better system of delivering care that emphasizes access to community drug rehabilitation programs. We need to have stronger provider networks of mental healthcare physicians, counselors, and support systems to assist patients and their families,” said Mr. Morgan.

“I want us to look at innovative ways to harness the state and federal dollars in our healthcare system to expand access to our behavioral healthcare providers. Let’s look at addressing the immediate failures in the system and fix them. Then let’s look at restructuring the delivery system, with patients and their families being the focal point,” said Mr. Morgan.

Mr. Morgan continued, “This is an all-hands-on-deck moment. It is a problem that will mean the next Governor and the General Assembly must work in unison to develop a comprehensive approach that delivers quality behavioral healthcare solutions to patients. Whether it is in Elizabeth City or Sylva, our people need to be able to count on the mental healthcare delivery system to access the care they need,” said Mr. Morgan.

“I am already exploring the creation of partnerships with our faith-based community in this area. Working with our churches and our faith leaders to provide support programs like we have seen with established self-help programs, I am confident that our faith-based community can play a major role in providing resources to support patients and families,” commented Mr. Morgan.

“It is irresponsible for us to turn our backs on the needs of those who are dealing with drug addiction and mental health issues. Our system is broken, and we need to work together to fix it. We owe it to our citizens to restructure and rebuild this system to better serve today’s citizens and future generations,” concluded Mr. Morgan.

  1. We don’t have a mental health crisis, we have a mental weakness crisis. People can not take disappointment, not getting what they want, cannot accept rejection, not getting their way. We need to teach people to learn how to deal with the fact that the world doesn’t revolve around them.If the schools would stop teaching children that they should get whatever they want ( as well as parents) that would go a long way.

        • Good try but its not really a fair comparison as Hillary quickly conceded and moved on. Did Trump ever actually concede? I know he hasn’t moved on because he led and insurrection and he’s still complaining to this day that the election was stolen from him yet hasn’t provided any evidence besides his whiney words.

          • Russia Russia Russia. In fact she is one of the only candidates who didn’t concede until the next day. And the. All you heard was Russia Russia Russia while all the libbies had a temper tantrum for 4 years. You’re delusional.

          • Yet you’re the one who keeps changing the subject. You seem poised to vote for someone you think is mentally weak yet all you can do is try to change the subject because you don’t want to accept you’re own hypocrisy. Quit projecting your delusions onto others.

  2. Every dem, every person who thinks a man can become a woman, 2023 was the hottest year ever, the economy is fine, killing a healthy baby equals freedom, shoplifters are just victims of economic injustice, photo id to vote is racist, public schools should teach 3rd graders about sex, all vaxs are safe and effective don’t ask any questions just do it, needs their mental health overhauled.

  3. This is dealing with the symptoms, and not the underlying problem. Society has cancer, a bandaid isn’t going to help much.

  4. If you want to overhaul the system, start preaching the Gospel. You cannot fight a spiritual battle using secular humanistic means. Take a look around. Tell me how these so-called mental health systems have been working out for people all these years. The crux of people’s issues is derived from living a life of sin and rejecting Christ. As a result, and natural biproduct of living said life of sin, a slew of mental issues does occur. The results of sin and their suppressing the truth of God in their own self-righteousness comes with devastating consequences. Consequences that cannot be dealt with from any secular source that only wishes to drug people up with their Pharmacia instead of pointing them to the only One who can and will save them. And I’m sure this comment will drive people batty as expected. But that’s just the truth. Deal with it.

  5. Democrats always want to blame the system. This candidate blames health care system, Governor Cooper says the Criminal Justice System is racially biased and broken and President Biden says he can’t stop fentanyl and illegals from coming across the border because the system is broken.
