A 32 year-old Kenly woman is facing several charges following her arrest for allegedly shoplifting 141 items from Wal-Mart in Smithfield.

Around 9:50am Sunday, Smithfield Police were called to Wal-Mart after a loss prevention officer reportedly stopped Martha Kay Radford of Bay Valley Road for allegedly trying to leave without paying for merchandise.

Police Chief R.K. Powell said Radford was observed by store employees shopping for several hours inside the store before attempting to leave.  Police recovered the 141 items valued at $936.75 and returned them to Wal-Mart.

Officers also located three children, ages 11 to 13, that had been left unattended in her car for several hours.

Chief Powell said a small amount of suspected methamphetamine was also located and seized.

Radford was charged with larceny, possession of methamphetamines and three counts of child abuse.  She was transported to the Johnston County Jail where bail was set at $15,000.
