DUNN – A lengthy investigation surrounding the death of a 22 month-old child led to the arrest her mother.
Jasmine Zhane Snead was arrested Nov. 12, 2024 and charged with involuntary manslaughter and negligent child abuse causing serious bodily injury.
On April 9, 2023, the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home at 32 Bear Lane near Dunn for a report of an unresponsive child with CPR in progress. EMS arrived and rushed the child to a local hospital. Five days later, on April 14, 2023, the child died in the hospital. An autopsy was requested.
On Nov. 8, 2024, the autopsy and toxicology results were received by the sheriff’s office. It was determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner the cause of death was due to Methamphetamine Toxicity.
At the time of her death, the baby was in the custody and care of her mother, Jasmine Snead, authorities said.
On November 19, Snead was arrested and ordered held under a $500,000 bond in the Harnett County Detention Center.
