BENSON – A mother and two young children were injured in a house fire Tuesday morning. The fire was reported at 3:08am at 720 Woodall Dairy Road near Benson.
Fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from all four corners of the home. Firefighters searched the smoke-filled residence and located one victim in their bedroom and brought them to safety. Altogether, three people were injured.
Two patients were airlifted to the NC Jaycee Burn Center at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill for treatment of burns and smoke inhalation. The third victim was transported to a local hospital for less serious injuries.
The exterior of the home showed only minimal damage, however the interior received heavy smoke and fire damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office. Fire Marshal Adam Stanley said there were working smoke detectors in the home.
The Benson, Elevation, and Four Oaks Fire Departments responded to the house fire. Johnston County EMS responded for patient care.
