CLAYTON – A Johnston County man was arrested on felony charges after deputies stopped his motorcycle because it didn’t have a license plate. Michael Shawn Booker Jr., 26, of the 10000 block of Buffalo Road, Clayton is facing charges.
On Tuesday, July 28th around 10:15pm, a deputy sheriff was on patrol on Cornwallis Road and saw a motorcycle in front of him without a license plate. After pulling the driver over, Booker allegedly told officers he had a temporary paper license plate on the motorcycle and it may have fallen off.
Officers said they detected an odor of marijuana on Booker. During a search 28.3 grams of marijuana was reportedly found in backpack and another 23.4 grams was found in a ziplock bag in another location. Altogether, 51.7 grams of suspected marijuana and digital scales was seized.
Booker was charged with felony possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, felony maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia. He was given a $10,000 secure bond for the offenses.
