BENSON – The State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal motorcycle accident in southern Johnston County. The accident was reported at 8:07pm Saturday on Godwin Lake Road near NC 50 in the Meadow community.
Russell Lindsey Barefoot of Godwin Lake Road, Benson was operating a black 2022 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound when he crossed the centerline, ran off the road on the left, and was ejected into the front yard of a home, the SHP said.
Barefoot, age 47, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers said alcohol is a suspected factor. Speed is not a contributing factor.
