SELMA – A pickup truck struck and killed a pedestrian in the roadway Wednesday night shortly past 11:30pm. The fatal accident occurred in the eastbound lanes of US Highway 70 near the Buffalo Road Exit.
According to authorities, the driver of a white Hyundai SUV had apparently run out of fuel. There was an empty gas can in the back of the car and the car’s gas cap door was open when the car’s owner was struck and killed by an eastbound pickup truck.
The pickup truck’s driver said that the man walked into the roadway waving his arms but that he was unable to avoid striking him.
The pickup truck driver was visibly shaken but uninjured in the accident.
US 70 was shut down for nearly two hours following the mishap.
The name of the victim has not been released.
