A brazen midday robbery of a motorist on US 70 near US 301 (Market near Brightleaf) in Smithfield has police looking for two suspects.
It happened around 11:40 AM Saturday just east of the heavily-traveled intersection.
Police said a 24 year-old Smithfield man had stopped his Nissan beside the roadway. Two people approached his car. At least one of the suspects was armed with a gun.
The driver was physically assaulted, causing minor injuries.
Police said the only item the suspects stole from the car was a pair of work gloves valued at $1. Detectives are investigating the incident, including the possibility the victim knew the robbery suspects.
