Multiple Restaurant Break-Ins Reported

Smithfield and Selma Police are investigating several restaurant break-ins reported hours apart.

Smithfield Police said an unknown suspect attempted to break into Panera Bread at 1716 E. Market Street, around 1:30am Tuesday. The suspect was unsuccessful in prying open the drive-thru window.

At approximately 1:52am, the same suspect was able to make entry into Arby’s, at 1720 E. Market Street, by forcibly opening the drive-thru window. No items were reported missing.

Around 2:02am, the burglar forced their way into Ay Guey Modern Mexican Cuisine at 160 Smithfield Crossing Drive. Approximately $100 in petty cash was stolen. Police said the suspect made entry by breaking the glass in a side entry door.

The suspect then made their way to Starbucks, at 110 S. Equity Drive, and at 2:22am forcibly opened the drive-thru window. A small fireproof safe was stolen.

Selma Police said a break-in was discovered early-Tuesday at the Old North State Food Hall, located on JR Road. Police are working with the restaurants in the food hall to determine if any items were taken.

Smithfield and Selma Police are jointly investigating the break-ins.

  1. What about the break ins on buffalo rd in Smithfield. There were 6 different places that were broken into including the old WMPM radio station? We don’t hear anything about that?
