Murder Charge Filed In Death Of 4 Month-Old

WAYNE COUNTY – An investigation into the death of a four month-old child has led to a murder arrest.

On April 2, 2024, an unresponsive infant was brought to an EMS station in Mount Olive. Life saving efforts were performed at the scene and while the child was being transported to the hospital. Tragically, the baby died two days later at ECU Health in Greenville.

Detectives with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office launched an immediate investigation and interviewed those involved with the April 2 incident and with an earlier medical call involving the same child on March 21.

Based on the investigation and a report from the NC Medical Examiner’s Office, Demarjal Za’Quan Stukes, age 21, of Ranch Drive, Mt. Olive has been charged with murder.

Stukes is being held in the Wayne County Detention Center without bond.

  1. I wish we could see updates to what happens to these monsters once they are incarcerated and the guys inside get real justice for that baby.
