Murder Suspect Arrested Near Kenly

Authorities have made an arrest following the discovery of a partially buried body in a wooded area in Sampson County.  On Monday, the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office received a call indicating a body had been found off of Lopez Lane in the Faison area.  Family members of the victim reportedly chased the suspect in a passenger car but lost sight of the vehicle near Turkey, NC.

Upon arrival, deputies located the body of a male buried in the wood line behind a home.  Investigators roped off the crime scene and called the NC State Bureau of Investigation to assist.

Deputies said Gustavo Adolfo Alvarez, 25, of Lopez Lane, Faison was identified as a suspect and warrants were obtained for his arrest.  A passenger car previously operated by Alvarez was found abandoned and partially submerged on Old Warsaw Road near Turkey.

The NC SBI and Wilson’s County Sheriff’s Office located Alvarez on Thursday outside of Kenly in the edge of Wilson County.  He was returned to Sampson County and formally charged with the homicide.

The identify of the victim and cause of death are being withheld pending a forensic autopsy.
