My Kid’s Club Receives Johnston County Arts Council Grant

SELMA – My Kid’s Club (MKC), a Johnston County non-profit providing services for local youth, has received a Grassroots Grant from the Johnston County Arts Council.

The Johnston County Arts Council serves as the North Carolina Arts Council’s partner in awarding subgrants to local organizations for arts programs in Johnston County. The Grassroots Arts Program aims to enrich the cultural life of North Carolina’s communities through the support of local arts programming that provides opportunities for every resident to experience the arts.

My Kid’s Club Executive Director Sarah Sheraski said the $2,500. grant has been able to expand MKC’s art and music program.

“We are extremely grateful for Johnston County Arts Council’s continued partnership in our community. Our youth sometimes struggle to be involved in the creative process as they lack confidence to take risks. Once these experiences were modeled by an artist, they started to thrive and began to revel in what they could create. Through our art and music program, we will continue to offer students the opportunity to engage in artistic forms of expression, taught by practicing artists, which we plan to offer with our math, STEM, and reading programs. MKC not only encourages members to be creative but also uses art and music to benefit their intellectual, personal, physical, educational, and social development,” Sheraski stated.

MKC is in the beginning process of building a new 5,000 square foot building that is adjacent to Selma Elementary School on N. Pollock Street. After school programs and summer camps provided by My Kid’s Club lay the foundation for youth to grow through opportunities for academic success with an emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) fields of study, civic engagement, and promoting healthy living habits to achieve their potential as responsible and caring citizens.
