A Kenly woman was killed and her two children injured in a traffic collision Sunday afternoon around 2:30pm on Highway 222 less than a mile from the Kenly city limits.
First responders found 42 year-old Alejandra Lopez-Reyes pinned in her vehicle. She died at the scene. Two of her children, ages 2 and 15, were in the car. They were transported by ambulance to Wake Med. Their conditions have not been released.
The driver of a pickup truck, Percy Daughtry IV of Selma, was also transported by ambulance to Wake Med for treatment of injuries. Initial reports indicate Daughtry ran off Highway 222, overcorrected, lost control then crossed the center line and struck the oncoming car driven by Lopez-Reyes. Charges are pending.
Funeral services for Lopez-Reyes will take place Saturday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church where she was a member. She is survived by two sons and a daughter.
