CLAYTON – A driver called 911 around 3:00am Thursday saying his pickup truck was sitting in the middle of a small creek just off of NC 42 East near East Clayton Elementary School.
When emergency responders arrived, they found the driver sitting on the hood of his partially submerged truck with a female passenger trapped inside the cab. They were both quickly rescued by members of the Northside Fire Department and checked out at the scene by Johnston County EMS crews.
According to authorities, it appeared that the driver of the Ford pickup had made a U-turn on the four-lane highway just before losing control, driving through a rock filled ditch, crashing into the dense woods, then splashing into the water.
Clayton Police investigated the early morning crash.
