The NC Department of Transportation will contribute $500,000 to Johnston County’s stormwater management program under a settlement reached on the construction of the 540 Outer Loop.
The NC DOT entered into a settlement agreement with Sound Rivers, Inc. Center for Biological Diversity and Clean Air Carolina in August 2019 to mitigate any potential environmental impact to complete the 540 Outer Loop. As part of the settlement, the DOT agreed to give a half million dollars in the next 18 months to Johnston County.
As a condition to receive the funds, Johnston County can only use the money to support the stormwater management program. The County must also show the NC DOT how the funds were spend.
