Neuse Charter Freshman Sets NCHSAA Single-Season Scoring Record

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Neuse Charter School has announced that freshman standout Jeremiah Edwards has set a new North Carolina High School Athletic Association record for the most points scored in a single season by a freshman in men’s basketball.
During the 2025–2026 season, Edwards set a new NCHSAA freshman record with 741 total points. This achievement surpassed the previous record of 685 points, which had been unbroken since the 2010–2011 season.
Edwards averaged 29.6 points per game this season, ranking him among the top scorers in North Carolina regardless of classification. In addition to his record-breaking performance, Edwards was selected to the NCBCA All-District Third Team in Region 3.
During the season, Edwards also set a Neuse Charter single-game scoring record by pouring in 48 points against Research Triangle on December 16, 2025, further highlighting his standout freshman campaign.
Edwards’ performance played a key role in Neuse Charter’s team success, as the Cougars advanced to the third round of the NCHSAA state playoffs.
The previous freshman scoring record had remained untouched for approximately 15 years, making Edwards’ accomplishment one of the most significant individual performances in recent state history.
“Jeremiah’s achievement speaks to his great work ethic and how he carries himself on and off the court,” said Connor Pulley, Neuse Charter Athletic Director & Varsity Men’s Basketball Coach. “We’re extremely proud of him, and our school is proud of him as well. We’re excited to see what the future holds for him.”
Edwards’ record-breaking season secures his place in the NCHSAA record books and sets a new standard for future freshmen across the state.
With three years of eligibility remaining, Edwards continues to establish himself as one of the top young players in North Carolina.
