Neuse Charter School Celebrates Student Awarded In DAR Good Citizen Program

SMITHFIELD – Whitley Kate Moore, a Senior at Neuse Charter School, has received the Good Citizen Award from the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. This program and scholarship contest are intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship in high school seniors.

Whitley Kate Moore was selected from her class as the DAR Good Citizen award recipient. Two NCS staff members nominated Whitley Kate for the award.

Nominator Emily Harris said of Whitley Kate, “She is very involved in her school community and her larger Johnston County community. She volunteers on her volleyball team to stay after practice to support younger players who need extra help. She volunteers at school events to help clubs like the Boosters, Student Government Association and National Honor Society succeed in fundraising. She is an active member of youth group at Centenary United Methodist Church. She also volunteers her time on the Smithfield Town Council’s Recreation Advisory Committee. Whitley Kate is the epitome of a good citizen.”

Kindergarten teacher, Melissa Pilkington, also said of Whitley Kate, “She is the helper in our classroom. Our children love and respect her. They look forward to her working with us each day. She is full of love, patience, knowledge and willingness to help with any task asked of her.”

DAR Good Citizens must have the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. Neuse Charter School is proud of Whitley Kate Moore whose nomination deems her eligible for the DAR Good Citizen scholarship contest.

Whitley Kate is the daughter of Lydia and Andy Moore of Smithfield.
