SMITHFIELD – Mrs. Jessica Lester and Ms. Kim Hines, both veteran teachers at Neuse Charter School in Smithfield, were selected to participate in Great Shape! Inc.’s 13th annual teacher training program in Jamaica. This transformative program, which began in 2011, aims to empower Jamaican educators with essential skills in computer literacy, behavior management, literacy, and numeracy training. This year marks a significant milestone as the program introduced the pilot of the Summer Reader Program for primary school students and the Fix-It team that traveled to schools with the aim of improving the physical facilities.

  1. At first glance, it sounds like a non-profit is bringing teachers to Jamaica to help out the locals. Great.

But the phrase “selected to participate” makes me wonder who is paying for something like many professional conferences in resort locations that are more of a luxury vacation than work.

    • Your first glance is correct. I am sure selected means, they don’t want the bottom of the barrel coming to train their educators. Try having some faith in humanity. If you want more information, try going to the link provided.
