SMITHFIELD – North Carolina Department of Transportation crews were using boats to work on the rising Neuse River to break up log and trash debris dams piling up along Johnston County bridge supports, Friday afternoon.
The river is not expected to crest until at least Sunday but floodwaters have already blocked much of the River Walk at Smithfield.
