WILLOW SPRING – Residents in western Johnston County will soon have better cellular telephone coverage. Johnston County officials have approved a request by Verizon Wireless to construct a cell phone tower in the 600 block of Two Claude Road, near the intersection of D A King Drive, in the Willow Spring area.
County commissioners approved a request by Cellco Partnership of Grand Rapids, Michigan to rezone the site for a 195 foot monopole tower.
During a recent planning board hearing, some nearby residents appeared and asked questions about the visibility of the tower and the possibility of increased vehicular traffic.
Commissioners approved the request with several conditions, including requiring the immediate area around the cell tower be enclosed by a fence, and the installation of a landscape buffer.
