New Home Building Permits Jump 19 Percent

Builders and contractors obtained 157 permits for new single family homes in Johnston County in the month of February, according to statistics from the Johnston County Inspections Department.

That’s up 19 percent compared to 132 permits for new single family homes issued in February 2018.

The average costs of those homes is also increasing. In Feb. 2018 the average value of a home permitted was $178,627.  Last month the average was $180,343.

A total of 13 permits were issued for singlewide and doublewide manufactured homes, and 2 for modular homes last month, about the same as a year earlier.

11 commercial construction permits were issued in February, down slightly from 16 in Feb. 2018.

The Inspections Department collected $210,522.80 in fees.  4,116 inspections were approved and 1,343 failed last month.  JoCoReport File Photo
