New Housing Starts Level Off

Permits for new single family homes in Johnston County leveled off in May.  A total of 160 permits were issued for new single family home construction, up slightly from 153 permits in May 2017.

During the first four months of 2018, new housing permits far exceeded corresponding 2017 numbers.

The average value of a single family home permit in May was $181,354, down from $189,932 in May 2017.

20 doublewide and singlewide permits were issued last month, down 1 from May 2017.  One duplex permit was issued.

13 commercial construction building permits were issued in May, up 1 from May 2017, according to the Johnston County Inspections Department.

The department collected $246,713.73 in fees last month, compared to $253,798.52 in fees in May 2017.

Inspectors passed 4,669 inspections and failed 1,129.
