New Housing Starts Up 15 Percent In July

new house constructionJuly was a good month for the building industry in Johnston County. A total of 128 permits were issued for new single family homes compared to 111 that were issued in July 2015. That represents a 15 percent increase. The number of townhome permits fell slightly from 5 to 4, while manufactured housing numbers increased from 12 to 13, compared to July 2015.

The average value of new construction homes last month was $181,309.

From January 1st to July 31st, 2016, a total of 816 permits have been issued for new single family homes in Johnston compared to 668 for the first seven months on 2015, an increase of 22 percent. Manufactured housing numbers are basically unchanged.

In July, the Johnston County Inspections Department collected $257,689.39 in fees up from $207,369.10 in July 2015. So far this year, the department has collected $1,496.522.18 in fees up from $1,259,753.36 for the same period in 2015.
