New Housing Starts Up Nearly 22 Percent In 2016

housing constructionNew housing starts in Johnston County continues to grow rapidly.  In August, 139 permits were issued for new single family homes by the Johnston County Inspections Department, up from 117 in August 2015. The average value of the new single family homes permitted in August was $174,480.

For the same month, manufactured housing numbers for both singlewide and doublewide permits fell slightly.

For the year, 955 permits for new single family homes have been issued from January 1 – August 31, 2016, up from 785 for the same eight month period in 2015, representing an increase of nearly 22 percent, according to statistics from the inspections department.

For the year, 54 doublewide permits have been issued, the same number as in 2016, although numbers were down for the month of August. A total of 65 singlewide permits have been issued in 2016, down from 70 during the first 8 months of 2015.

Three duplex permits have been issued this year up from 1 last year. Thirty-six townhome permits have been issued down slightly from 40 for the same period in 2015.
