Patsy Elrod was named the principal of the JCPS Virtual Academy at the July Johnston County Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, July 13.
Elrod has served Johnston County Public Schools as an educator for more than a decade. Most recently she was the Assistant Principal at Polenta Elementary. She will begin her new role at the Virtual Academy on July 14.
The JCPS Virtual Academy is the district’s newest school, set to open in the fall of 2021.
“My appointment as principal of the JCPS Virtual Academy is an honor for me,” said Elrod. “JCPS recognizes that families are busy or have unique situations. Our Virtual Academy will provide these families with the flexibility that they need while still providing a quality education for their children.”
Before her time as Assistant Principal, Elrod served as a language arts teacher at River Dell Elementary, Wilson’s Mills Elementary, and McGee’s Crossroads Elementary.
Elrod holds a masters of school administration from N.C. State University, masters of education from Campbell University, and a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from East Carolina University.
“We are excited to open the Virtual Academy to all students in Johnston County this fall,” said Johnston County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Eric Bracy. “I look forward to being a part of all of the wonderful things Ms. Elrod will accomplish with our Virtual Academy students.”
The JCPS Virtual Academy will hold an informational virtual Town Hall on Saturday, July 24 at 3:00 PM for families of students interested in attending the school. You can learn more about the school and the Town Hall by visiting our website.
