New Officer Joins Police Force

The Smithfield Police Department has hired a new officer. Officer Tyler Hayes was sworn in by Mayor Andy Moore during the Feb. 2nd town council meeting.

Hayes graduated from Basic Law Enforcement Training at Nash Community College. He previously worked for the NC State University Campus Police.

A resident of Wilson, Officer Hayes has been assigned to the Smithfield Police Departments patrol division to fill an existing vacancy.

Hayes told WTSB News he hopes to be able to make a difference in the community.
