SMITHFIELD – The Smithfield Police Department has a new officer on the force. Amara Miller received her Oath of Office March 7 from Mayor Pro Tem John Dunn.
Officer Miller is a new resident to Johnston County. She moved to the area to be with family and friends and to pursue a career in law enforcement. Previously, she worked as a Corrections Officer for the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois. She attended Basic Law Enforcement Training at Johnston Community College in Smithfield.
Officer Miller will fill an existing vacancy on the patrol division.
