Susan Jones has been named the new principal of Clayton Middle School, effective Monday, October 7th.
Jones will replace the school’s current principal, Catherine Trudell, who will be leaving the district to serve as principal of Wendell Middle School in Wake County, where she resides. Trudell has served as principal of Clayton Middle School since 2017.
“I have great confidence in Mrs. Jones and her commitment to the students at Clayton Middle School,” said Johnston County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jim Causby.
Jones has served as a teacher, literacy coach, assistant principal, principal, and operations director within Johnston County Public Schools and brings a wealth of experience to the role.
“I am excited to become part of the Clayton Middle School family,” said Jones. “Mrs. Trudell and the staff have established a student-centered culture that will allow us to continue to soar. I look forward to learning from the students, staff, and parents at Clayton Middle School and continuing the high expectations that the Eagle community has come to expect.”
Jones has devoted 20 years of service to Johnston County Public Schools. Since August 2019 she has been the Assistant Principal at Powhatan Elementary in Clayton. From August 2017 to July 2019 Jones was the Operations Director for Clayton and Cleveland Area Schools. From March 2015 to July 2017 she was the Principal at Polenta Elementary School. Jones began her educational career in 1999 as a teacher at McGee’s Crossroads Elementary.
Jones and her family reside in Johnston County.
“My husband and I are fortunate to have both of our children attending Johnston County Public Schools, and I look forward to becoming part of the Clayton community,” Jones added.
