Mama Nem’s to open first brick and mortar restaurant
SELMA – Adventure Development, LLC, is pleased to announce that Mama Nem’s, owned by Samad Bilal and business partner Lee Brooks, will open later this summer at 103 S. Raiford Street in downtown Selma.
Mama Nem’s currently operates a catering business and mobile restaurant and will open their first brick and mortar restaurant in a first-floor space in the Vick Building. AdVenture Development is located on the second floor of the Vick Building, an historic property the company renovated in 2020.
Bilal, a formally trained chef, attended Wake Tech Culinary School, and over the years grew a successful food truck business, building on the popularity of recipes passed down from his great grandmother’s cookbook and other family recipes.
Mama Nem’s has a broad menu, focusing on creole items, including Mama’s Gumbo, Shrimp Po’ Boy, Million Dollar Collard Greens, and their popular Dirty Balls with Awesome Sauce.
Bilal says running a food truck and new restaurant will be a family affair, thanks to help from his wife, Sandra, and their children, sharing front of house and back of house positions.
Deciding to locate in Johnston County was an easy decision, Bilal said, noting, “JoCo is great! There are so many events in downtown Selma and a real sense of community.”
