New Smithfield Splash Pad Officially Named Eva E. Ennis Park

Eva Ennis

The recently built splash pad in East Smithfield has been named the Eva E. Ennis Park. The Town of Smithfield plans to open the splash pad to the public in time for Memorial Day. It is located at the former site of the Eva E. Ennis Municipal Pool and adjacent to Smith-Collins Park.

The Parks & Recreation Department requested the naming of the splash pad and future amenities at the location in memory of Mrs. Ennis, a Johnston County native and community leader. She passed away in October 1977.

Mrs. Ennis was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church at Fourth and Caswell streets, a member of the board of deaconesses and the Missionary Circle. She was also a member of the Household of Ruth and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
