New Year’s Day Crash Claims Life

One person was killed and a second seriously injured in a crash early Monday morning near Wendell.

The Highway Patrol says two brothers were in a car speeding on Riley Hill Road near Rolesville Road when their Volvo ran off the road to the right, came back onto the highway, crossed the centerline, traveled off the road to the right a second time, struck a ditch and overturned ejecting both occupants. The vehicle caught fire and burned after the 2:48am collision.

Christopher Ryan Brown, 23, of Privette Road, Wendell died at the scene. His brother, Edwin Emery Scott, 37, from the same address, was taken to Wake Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. He was listed in serious but stable condition Monday afternoon.

Sgt. Michael Baker with the NC Highway Patrol Public Information Office said troopers have still not determined who was driving, however speed and alcohol were contributing factors.
