Newly National Board Certified Teacher Recognized

Cleveland High teacher Tina Ambrose was recognized at the February Johnston County Board of Education meeting for becoming the district’s newest newly certified National Board teacher.

National Board Certification is a rigorous year-long process of self-reflection and growth sponsored by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. The mission of the organization is to advance student learning and achievement by establishing the definitive standards and systems for certifying accomplished educators.

Each year many teachers complete the National Board process but less than 50% are successful in earning the credential. Johnston County Schools employs approximately 256 National Board certified teachers.

Twenty-one JCS educators also renewed their National Board certification in November of 2016. Teachers who renewed their board certification include Melissa Oliver, Sherry Stanley, Ambar Alcala de Mejia, Nixaliz Rose, Carmen Young, Paula Coyle, Erin Lee, Laura Fite, Jeanne Beasley, Mary Kidd, Kimberly Kemp, Heather Ribar, Joseph Smith, Douglas Pawlak, Amy Morgan, Vicki Heath, Shannon Evans, Melissa Sevigny, Lynn Price, Saron Mohiser, and Kelly Murphy. Jeannette Harris received the renewal of her certification posthumously.
