A Newton Grove man died in a house fire today (Tuesday).
Fire crews from Sampson and Johnston counties responded to a 2:45am 911 call reporting a fire at 3172 Harnett-Dunn Highway. After putting out the flames, firefighters discovered the body of 52 year-old Jimmy Lee inside. Lee was the owner of the residence.
Investigators have still not determined the cause of the fire. The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, Sampson County Fire Marshal’s Office and NC SBI are jointly investigating the cause.
An autopsy will also be performed on the victim.
The Newton Grove, Spivey’s Corner, Plainview, Vann’s Crossroads and Meadow Fire Departments responded to the scene along with Sampson County EMS, Newton Grove Rescue and Suttontown Rescue.
