NEWTON GROVE – Eddie Swindell, 75, of Newton Grove, was killed in a two-car wreck less than two miles from his home on Church Road Monday afternoon.
Sampson County 911 received a call about the crash near the five-point intersection of Church Road, Warren Mill Road, McLamb Road and Rosin Hill Road at 3:47 p.m.
Twenty-six-year-old Amanda Hill, of Godwin, was traveling east on Warren Mill Road and Swindell was traveling south on Church, in the direction of his home, when the two crossed paths.
Hill failed to yield the right-of-way at the intersection, pulling into Swindell’s path and the two collided, according to a preliminary investigation by the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
The impact sent both vehicles off of the roadway and into neighboring yards. Swindell’s truck overturned in the collision, troopers say. He was thrown from his vehicle and died of his injuries at the scene.
One person from Hill’s truck was airlifted to a regional trauma center. Three others were transported to local hospitals for reatment.
The wreck remains under investigation.
