The North Johnston High athletic program received a $5,000 donation from Coastal Federal Credit Union (CFCU) for having a history of producing scholar athletes.
The credit union is a long-time supporter of high school academics and athletics through their Scholar Athlete of the Month Award. The award is given to a local high school student athlete who maintains high academic and athletic standards.
Over the years, several North Johnston High School student athletes have won the CFCU Scholar Athlete Award, which includes a plaque and a $400 donation to the athlete’s school.
North Johnston High was one of three schools in the state recognized for having multiple student athletes receive the CFCU Athlete Award at a North Carolina Football Club professional men’s soccer game in Sept. 2018. Due to their long standing involvement with the CFCU Scholar Athlete program received the extra donation of $5,000 to their athletic programs.
CFCU Vice President of Corporate Affairs Creighton Blackwell presented the donation to Principal Dr. Ben Williams in front of NJHS student athletes in the school’s media center on March 19.
In his presentation, Mr. Blackwell reiterated CFCU’s commitment to supporting student athletes and their schools. He praised Panther Coach Jay Poole for his support of the credit union’s educational involvement in partnering with North Johnston High, and he thanked the students for their commitment to excellence in the classroom and in athletics.
“North Johnston High is very appreciative and honored to have the support and generosity of Coastal Federal Credit Union and their support of high school scholar athletes,” said Poole. “This is a great partnership we hope to continue for many years to come. Thank you to Creighton Blackwell for coming to North Johnston to recognize our student athletes and coaches.”
